Relevance Charter

A database manager in the field told me that in his field a database position can stay open for over a year before finding a suitable candidate.  He told me that our current universities are not producing the talent database management and development firms require.
If a consortium of 10 database engineering firms in North Carolina came together to found a charter school, the consortium's role would be to provide supplemental funding and inform the project-based curriculum.  Like a STEM school with a hyper focus, students would learn the common core through the lens of IT training specifically around database management and development, real world business skills, and application projects.
Students who reach apprentice status will be offered contract-based IT internships at $10 per hour as needed by the consortium, the thought being that students would rather do this kind of work than work in fast food and typical part time high school jobs.
Upon graduation from high school, capable students will be offered full time work remotely database management positions that pay $10k less than the typical post-grad starting salary.  Students would be encouraged to work from a laptop and be global travelers for 3 years.  Upon keeping the job satisfactorily for 3 years, the now-licensed professional will have a chance to either receive $20k toward college degree, or continue to work for the consortium at the appropriate salary, which would reflect 4 years of work experience.
The IT companies increase a talent flow and inform curriculum-as-job training.  The students receive paid internships and then earn 3-year paid positions and guaranteed long-term, high-paying jobs.  And the education community gets to pilot a model that is scalable and will work for multiple high-needs fields.
